DIVA Exclusive: check out DIDI's brand new belter, Back Off
The fearless performer and record producer shares her latest single
We’ve been big fans of DIDI ever since she burst onto our radar with her addictive second single Awkward. Her articulate, expressive anthems get under your skin with their punky, joyous guitar-driven riffs, bags of attitude and astute social observation. We're not the only ones who approve. Just check out what the experts have been saying:
"Young, boisterous punky art pop that has a touch of the Victoria Wood and Razorlights about it" - Johnno Casson from Fresh On The Net
"DIDI aka Lauren Deakin Davies is the youngest member of Music Producers Guild and now she’s stepping out from behind the desk. Feisty new punk there, from a very gifted young producer and performer" - BBC 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins
As if that wasn't impressive enough, this provocative performer and record producer was recently named Producer Of The Year from East Anglia’s NMG Awards.
We are seriously excited to be exclusively sharing DIDI's lyric video for her new single, Back Off, here today.
DIDI revealed the inspiration behind the song: "I was on the way back from a gig, on the late night train from London, where I witnessed a guy shouting at a drunk girl to be quiet. He starting dissing her education and race and it really pissed me off. I was about to wade in but she was sticking up for herself so well, had a sassy come back for everything and it actually made me sad that this was clearly not the first time she had had to deal with this. So I just had to write a song about it there and then, before I could go to sleep, as I was so angry!"
She also opened up about the recording process: "In recording it, I was really pleased to have some additional vocal contribution from Minnie Birch, Lewis Bootle, Penny Churchill and Rhiannon Mair. Rhiannon also played the drums on the track and produced it with me. I am really pleased with the reaction it's been getting. I am sure that was aided by the mastering which was done by Katie Tavini and now it's great to be able to share the punchy lyric video, which was created by Dani O'Brien."
So now you know the backstory, feast your ears on this:
And keep your eyes peeled for DIDI's debut EP, which is due out early 2018.
