Southport’s Conservative MP Damien Moore asked Mrs May to extend her condolences to Cassie’s family during Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs) in the House of Commons this week.

According to a report by the Liverpool Echo, the opening of the inquest into her death heard that Andrew Burke, who is charged with the 28-year-old’s murder, went into the TUI travel agency where Hayes worked armed with a knife.

Coroner’s investigation officer Albert Howard-Murphy told a hearing at Southport Town Hall that, Burke cut her throat after going into the travel agency.

Mr Howard-Murphy said Burke had made threats against Cassie, and had also previously been arrested and charged with harassment of his former partner Laura Williams, who was Cassie’s partner at the time of the attack.

"Cassie was an amazing, kind human being who would do anything for anyone.

"She doted on all her family and our loss is beyond calculation.”

Burke is due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court for a plea and case preparation hearing in February
