Happy New Year lovely listeners and welcome back for the first Radio DIVA of 2018 ✨

Easing you all into the New Year, presenters Heather Peace and Rosie Wilby have got some beautiful live music lined up, as well as New Year themed readings, and a brand new 2018-shaped report from The L Word's Rachel Shelley.

Providing us with her soft and dulcet tones will be South London-based singer-songwriter Martha Paton. Known for her folk and country-infused pop - “Briticana” as she calls it - Spotify compare her to the likes of Laura Marling, Regina Spektor, Margo Price and First Aid Kit.

Paton has so far supported artists including Rae Morris, Kim Churchill and Joel Baker, and will be playing her brand new single Sleeping in Surburbia, which is due out on 12 January.

Also live in the studio, will be lesbian writer Laura Kaye. A graduate of the MA in Creative Writing at Goldsmiths, in 2014 she completed her first novel, English Animals which was published by Little, Brown in 2017.

As well as writing, Laura has spent the last 10 years working on music and arts documentaries for the BBC, joining the BBC Music TV Department in 2005 to work on Brasil, Brasil after graduating from Cambridge University with an MPhil specialising in Brazilian music.

“I’m very excited to to be appearing on this week's Radio DIVA to discuss English Animals!" Laura told Radio DIVA.

"I'm such a fan of DIVA Magazine, so it’s a real honour to be invited. I'll be reading from the book and talking about being queer in rural areas and other issues that the novel explores."

On top of all of that, roving reporter Rachel Shelley has a special New Year themed report, looking at New Year's resolutions and creativity to keep you motivated despite any January blues. And of course, our fabulous "lesbro" Jonathan Phang will be back (after his appearance on Saturday Kitchen Live this weekend 🍳) with the latest LGBT headlines from OutNews Global.
