Lucy Spraggan: X Factor Left Me Feeling Suicidal

The singer examines life since the reality show in her new single, London Bound.

We can’t stop listening to London Bound, the second release from Lucy Spraggan’s album We Are.

Jaunty and melodic, the song’s catchy chorus will have this tune stuck in your head for weeks. But the frank lyrics also allude to the depression Lucy experienced following her appearance on The X Factor in 2012 and the homesickness she felt after moving to London.

On the album, Lucy says: “[It’s] basically a diary of the ups and downs of the last few years – appearing on The X Factor, moving to London, working hard and changing as a person.

“In some ways, writing this record has been a bit of documentation for me.”

Lucy opened up about her X Factor journey and told the Mirror the show left her feeling suicidal. She said: “The worst thing for me was feeling completely uninspired by the whole thing. I didn’t write for about a year.

“There was a point where I thought, ‘Where does this go?’ I felt like I wanted to kill myself. There was one point when I was in my car and I put my foot to the floor, I looked at my dog sat next to me and thought, ‘What are you doing’?”

But with a bit of help, Lucy has successfully turned her life around and her future looks bright. We Are – released on her own label CTRL Records – reached number one on the iTunes singer-songwriter chart.
