If you’re as much of a fan of LGBT cinema as we are, you’ll be very excited to hear that Gay Times Magazine is hosting a series of special film screenings in London next week.

The popular gay and bisexual men’s magazine will start with a special screening of Oscar-winner Moonlight on Monday night at the Curzon Mayfair ahead of the its Blue-ray and DVD release on 19 June.

The audience will also be treated to a live Q&A with celebrated filmmaker Isaac Julien, BFI archivist Karen Alexander and director of film, television and theatre Topher Campbell on representations of black men in film.

Gay Times will also premiere the highly anticipated screening of Whitney: Can I Be Me on June 13 at the May Fair Hotel prior to the film’s general release.

After the screening, there will be a Q&A session with director Nick Broomfield, who also helmed documentaries about Sarah Palin, Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss, Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain and serial killer Aileen Wuornos.

Whitney: Can I Be Me shows the vulnerable singer sliding into drug abuse and struggling with her identity. The film has drawn favourable comparisons with Asif Kapadia’s Amy.

Gay Times owner James Frost said:

“Both films have real resonance with the LGBT+ community and we are particularly pleased to have secured the live Q&A’s after both screenings. Moonlight is such an important film for LGBT people and Whitney Houston is a gay icon whose songs have soundtracked the lives of millions of gay men and women. Whitney: Can I Be Me is a brilliant documentary, and we’re very happy to offer this early screening with director Nick Broomfield.”
