Saski: "DIVA After Dark is an intimate way to meet new people"

The singer, host and LGBT+ activist reveals what you can look forward to at DIVA's next pop-up night

After the success of the first DIVA After Dark event, I’m really looking forward to hosting the night on 21 October. This time I've planned two additional twists - I’m hosting a pre mingle soirée plus I’ll also be performing, which I’m really excited about.

I remember the days of lesbian hotspots First Out, Glass Bar and Candy Bar, and, guess what, people actually used to talk to each other! It’s been the death of the lesbian bar, especially for over 25s, and I want to revive that.

People are so consumed with "cyber love" these days and that’s great if you find "the one", but I just feel that we lose the art of communication. I want to be able to look into a woman’s eyes and watch her lips whilst she’s talking to me, not sit around feeling paranoid, checking "last seen on" on WhatsApp, waiting for a reply.

Of course, there are lots of great events out there for women. However, they're usually en masse as every lesbian in the land flocks to them and, whilst its great to be in a room full of woman, we're still not talking to each other unless we're with our own friends. For me, what makes DIVA After Dark particularly special is that we are bringing back a more intimate way of meeting new people. I want to sex that up again and really get woman in our community out there connecting with each other because let’s face it, whether you swipe left or right and have a thousand smiley photos, a true connection is only real when you meet the person face to face.

That’s why I wanted to host a pre-mingle soirée from 6pm for those who want to meet other like-minded women for chats and fun before the party really gets into full swing. It’s also great if you are a little shy, flying solo or single and ready to mingle. This will help break the ice so that women feel more relaxed and ready to party. B’acino bar is a great venue for this event too. It has an additional bar with two lounge rooms for those more intimate conversations and maybe even a first kiss.

I’m looking forward to seeing how things unravel on the night. I’m sure with drinks promotions thrown in, they’ll soon be letting their hair down and partying away and that’s what we want!

Back by popular demand, we have the amazing Lots Holloway. She's just released her new EP and will be performing tracks from that as well as those cool covers we love to sing along to! I’ll also be doing a guest spot during the evening - after all it would be rude not to. DJ of the night is Vylit. She also went down a storm last time so we’ve got her back.
