Honey G just came out as a lesbian in a photoshoot with The Sun
“I was worried about what people would think.”
Honey G won loads of fans with her unforgettable appearance on the thirteenth series of X Factor. And now she has come out as a lesbian in an interview and semi-nude photoshoot with The Sun.
Speaking to Dan Wootton for his Bizarre column, the rapper explained her decision to reveal her sexuality at this stage in her career:
“I do worry about homophobia, but I feel now is the right time to, you know, let people know that I’m gay.”
She also spoke about why she chose not to come out during her time on the reality TV show, saying, “I just wasn’t ready to come out to the public, you know?”
“At my very first audition, Simon asked me if I had a boyfriend. I said no and that I was single. I wasn’t really ready at that point to announce my sexuality to the world. Being new to the music industry, and being on The X Factor, I think I was just a bit shy and a bit guarded. I was a bit worried about what people would think as well.
“I was just a bit worried about people maybe being homophobic. I wasn’t ready to come out to the public at that point.”
She described how supportive her mentor Sharon Osborne had been throughout the show:
“She was always very protective of me when we had interviews together and they would ask me about it. She would step in say something about her being bisexual. It was hilarious.”
Honey G opened up about her celebrity crushes, which include Queen Latifah:
“I’ve had a thing for her for fucking ages. Literally. She’s an A-list celebrity so how can I get anywhere near her, do you know what I mean?”
Other women on her hot list are Fleur East (“good looking”), Jennifer Aniston (“absolutely stunning”), Dame Kelly Holmes (“I love someone sporty”) and Johanna Konta “very pretty”).
Showbiz reporter Dan tweeted that Honey G was "completely overwhelmed" by the reaction she's received.
This morning Honey G appeared on Lorraine to discuss her sexuality further.
Her new single Hit You With The Honey G is out now.
