Do you want another series of smart, sexy, Sapphic drama Different For Girls?
Here’s how you can help make it happen.
There's so much to love about web series Different For Girls. From the brilliant performances by actors we adore (including The L Word’s Rachel Shelley and DIVA Choice award-winner Victoria Broom) to the gripping storylines that kept us glued to the screen, DFG had us hooked from the get-go.
You fell hard for DFG too and the queertastic drama has now racked up tens of thousands of views on the Lesbian Box Office YouTube channel. It’s official - we’re obsessed and we want a second series!
But the reality is it takes cash to make such a brilliant programme and sadly LGBT+ filmmaking is still woefully underfunded. That’s where you can help. The first series was brought to life thanks to generous donations to the DFG Indiegogo campaign and now the team has launched a new fundraising drive so they can create a second series. There are special perks up for grabs if you donate. Fancy a signed cast photo or even a chance to be a DFG extra? Then head over to Indiegogo.
We spoke to DFG writer Jacquie Lawrence about why securing funding for this show is so important:
"History shows us that when the traditional media starves the LGBT community of characters and stories then we have to fund our own. This has applied to fringe theatre, low budget movie making, self-publishing and now it applies to web series. DIFFERENT FOR GIRLS was only achievable with the support and funding given by Indiegogo supporters. You helped us create a sexy, sassy, uber modern web series where romance, betrayal and mystery entangled three lesbian couples and their gay male friends. We now need to raise completion funding for the remaining seven episodes, so we can continue to tell the story of Fran & Cam, Brooke & Nicola and Gemma & Jude who, along with their friends and families, face even more sexual entanglement, lies and suspense.”
She’s passionate about making a queer show where being different is normal:
“We want to continue producing a drama where lesbian characters are more than secondary characters, where contemporary lesbian relationships are first and foremost to the plot and where not one lesbian is killed, maimed or turned straight. Please help us by pledging support to our new DIFFERENT FOR GIRLS Indiegogo Campaign and we'll bring you more ground breaking drama in which lesbian characters thrive rather than die!"
