A drag king on prime time TV? Hurrah!
Watch drag king Len Blanco strut their stuff on BBC One's new Saturday night show 📺
All Together Now, BBC One.
All Together Now is the BBC's new "singing competition with a twist", and the newest episode - airing this Saturday - features a bloody lovely drag king (🙌🏼 🙌🏽 🙌🏾)
As Len Blanco - aka Helen White - takes to the stage, members of The 100 aren’t sure... but drag queen Divina de Campo immediately spots Len, and whispers, "A drag king! They are an endangered species..." before Len goes on to strut his stuff. And strut he does.
"Everyone knows what a drag queen is, but drag kings? People need to know that we exist", explains performer Helen White.
"This is Len's big debut... Len has never sung live before!"
So, what's it all about then?
Each episode, a range of performers take to the stage, and waiting to judge each performance is "The 100" - a panel of one hundred music experts and performers, headed up by none other than Ginger Spice. Yes, the fabulous Geri Horner will be bringing a slice of girl power to the newest kid on the Saturday-night block...
How do performers score points?
The aim of the competition is simple. Each act is hoping to get as many of the 100 singing along with their performance as they can, because the more of the 100 who join in, the higher the act scores.
Each member of the 100 who joins in scores the act one point, but since the 100 are a broad mix of ages, music backgrounds, music interests and opinions, getting them all joining in and singing along is no easy feat....
Every act is hoping they can score high enough to qualify for the series final and ultimately have the chance of winning the £50,000 series prize. (Bazinga!)
To find out how the lovely Len Blanco does, tune in to All Together Now, this Saturday at 7.15pm on BBC One. Go on, Len!
