Online Dating is a numbers' game
More often than not, dating online is all about statistics. If
you cast a wide enough net, you'll end up catching someone sooner
or later. Plodding along on a dating site and messaging hundreds of
people may not be quite as romantic as being whisked away by
Princess Charming, but coming to terms with the fact that getting
results online takes time is a must if you're serious about using
the Internet for finding love. There are simply too many people on
there for most mere mortals to be able to find the right person
straight away.
People can be more flippant online
Online dating has revolutionised the way we date and not always
for the better. People nowadays tend to take online connections
less seriously and it's only when things move over to the more
"serious" text messages and phone calls that they begin to treat
the other person as a real living being. This, of course, is not
true of everyone, but if you date online, you'll quickly come
across people who disappear without a trace, reject you quite
curtly or are otherwise not very polite. Deal with it by not taking
things too personally. It's most likely not you at all, it's just
the way people do things online.
If you're stuck in a rut - reinvent
yourself
Not getting the results you want? It could be your profile. It
might be time to choose a different picture or change the text. A
profile makeover is cheaper than a real makeover and could make a
real and lasting difference to the responses you get on the
site. Your profile is not set in stone, so you can change it
and experiment with it as often as you like to see whether you can
make it deliver.
Online dating is not the end all and be all of
dating
Shocking, we know, but as much as we love online dating, if
you're serious about finding the love of your life, you should be
looking everywhere, not just in the obvious places. Concentrate on
making yourself feel attractive and desirable and open yourself up
to all opportunities. Saying yes to every offer of going out and
socialising with others is the best thing you can do if you're
looking for someone. Adopt an air of openness without too much
anticipation and lusting after results. Just make sure you're
feeling ready for anything that may come your way and go out
intending to enjoy your evening and nothing more. If you meet
someone, great. Otherwise, you'll still enjoy your evening (unless
you go out every time expecting to meet the woman of your dreams,
of course).
