Valentine’s Day

The best time of the year to date online.

Tue, 07 Feb 2012 14:23:43 GMT | Updated 1 years today

In spite of its hetero-centric roots, Valentine's Day can have the same depressing effect on single lesbians as it does for heterosexual ones.

Being bombarded with imagery of happy couples or worse - happy couples smooching in the flesh -  is really not what you need when you're not feeling the love yourself.

But before you sink into a gloomy bah humbug equivalent, the good news here at DivaDate is that this time of year is also our busiest. If you've been dating online with DivaDate and are yet to find the woman of your dreams, then you'll be happy to know we always have new women joining up in February.

With the weather, Valentine's Day and New Year's resolutions still fresh in the minds of the nation, everyone's feeling the pressure, so expect to be getting a whole load of new potential partners heading your way this month.

So spruce up your profile and photos and clear your schedule, as you'll want to be making full use of the opportunities that should be coming your way very soon.

In the meantime, here are some tips for surviving the day.

Don't be alone on Valentine's Day

The first and most obvious thing to do is make sure you're not sat at home feeling sorry for yourself. Some people don't particularly care about the dreaded V-day and for them this is a non-issue. If, on the other hand, you're one of those who attach a lot of meaning and memories to the occasion, don't wallow alone at home. Either get together with friends or try to schedule a date for the night. Even if you schedule a date with someone from the "maybe" pile, the fact that you're actively trying to put yourself out there can be enough to keep away the gloom for the night.

Make good use of time

If things fail to materialise and you're stuck at home, use that opportunity to spend some quality time checking out the new blood on DivaDate. The key is to remember that as long as you keep trying, you're on the right track, even if results are not immediate.

Keep things in perspective

But of course, the most important thing to remember is that Valentine's Day is just a day. By tomorrow it will pass and the sun will still rise, spring will still come and chances are you will find what you're looking for. Society may have a way of rubbing it in your face, but this too, as they say, shall pass.
