When should you introduce her to your friends?

You know how it goes, you meet someone on Diva Date, you hit it off, you start hanging out and things are going well. At what point should you let your friends meet her?

Friends can be judgmental and well meaning friends can be most judgemental of all.

We're going on the assumption that your friends want the best for you, which may make them scrutinise your new special friend with a giant magnifying glass to ensure she's right for you. This can obviously be quite disconcerting for your date, but also for you.

Until you've established your own feelings about the girl, should you bring other people's feelings and impressions into the equation or should you trust your own instincts?

As ever, there's no easy answer. If you're unsure about someone you may well want your best friend's opinion, even if only as an affirmation that you're doing the right thing.

On the other hand, some friends can be needlessly judgemental when it comes to people's dress sense, style or any other such qualities that make hardly any difference in the grand scheme of things. Only you know what your friends are like and which friends are most suitable for gently introducing your new lady into the fold.

A good plan of action would therefore consist of the following steps.

First, admit to yourself that you like the girl in the first place as not every online fling is worthy of being hauled in front of the social circle court for inspection. Go on several dates, see each other in several different settings and situations and decide that you would be happy to go further.

When introducing her to friends for the first time, choose the friends wisely. If you have extremely fashion-conscious friends for whom wearing the wrong shade is the biggest faux pas, then don't introduce them to your slackly dressed date and judge her by their reaction.

Go for the open minded, friendly friends who are less shallow and save the fashion police for when you're so certain of your love, they'll know to keep quiet about such things.

Choose friends you can count on who are not currently going through a hard time with dating issues themselves. Even the best meaning friends can come out with some dark stuff when they're unhappy about their own love lives.

Most importantly, make sure you make your date feel comfortable, pay her attention and be affectionate. This sends the signal to your friends that you are serious about this woman, so they are more likely to make her feel at ease too.
