2016 is almost here, and it's set to be another year of rainbow filled frolics. To make life easier for you, we've created a list of the best of the year ahead.

National Student Pride

The best annual gathering of LGBT+ students in the country. It's a weekend of parties at G-A-Y and Heaven, combined with discussions, music, art and film.

The National Festival of LGBT History

Only in its second year, this festival for LGBT History Month already has a star-studded line-up - including Ian McKellen, Susan Stryker and Peter Tatchell - and takes place across the UK. We've got our eyes on the showing of iconic documentary, The Times of Harvey Milk, with a talk by Milk's nephew Stuart Milk, President of The Harvey Milk Foundation.

Across the UK, every weekend in February, 2016

Queer Contact Festival

Queer Contact Festival returns for its eighth year this February, featuring a packed 10-day programme of events - all celebrating LGBT+ arts and culture in Manchester. The event, where you can expect dance, music, cabaret, spoken word, and visual art, is part of LGBT History Month,

Greater Manchester, 4-14 February, 2016

BFI Flare: London LGBT Film Festival

Showing the best queer cinema from all around the world, this film festival is a celebration of the LGBT+ art community. The festival is still accepting submissions for both features and short films, so be sure to send in your home-made masterpieces.

Ella International Lesbian Festival

An international gathering of lesbian and bisexual women on the beautiful island of Mallorca - you'd be a fool to miss it. The festival is getting bigger every year and includes inspirational talks from lady-loving women, music, sports, food and parties. Pride London

The big one. Pride London is one of the capital's biggest events each year, and it's no surprise. Join the march for equality through London's streets and be one of the thousands celebrating pride in Trafalgar Square.

London,18 -26 June, 2016

Pride Edinburgh

Scotland's national LGBT+ festival set in picturesque Edinburgh is an annual extravaganza. Last year's party included live music, a pride ceilidh, and a trans space.

Edinburgh, TBC

L Fest

Started back in 2010 by Cindy Edwards after she co-organised a women's football tournament, this festival for LGBT+ women has grown annually - 1500 women attended last year. There is film, music, cabaret, comedy - and much more - all in a Staffordshire racecourse crammed with love and jubilation. Be sure to go to L Fest's overseas festival in Spain, called L Fest Del Mar, too!

Staffordshire, 15-18 July, 2016

Brighton Pride

The UK's gay capital is celebrating its parade in 2016 with a Carnival Of Diversity theme, which will reflect the diversity of Brighton. Alongside this, the festival's campaigning theme is Uniting Nations - representing their on-going commitment to campaign for worldwide LGBT+ rights. Head down to see the city morphed in to one gigantic rainbow. Buy your tickets - especially for the afterparties - early to avoid disappointment.

Brighton, 5-7 August, 2016

Girlie Circuit

What says summer holidays better than Girlie Circuit? This year, the festival's 9th, the program includes parties, music, sports, arts, workshops and talks at this all-women event with holiday-makers from all over the world.

Barcelona 9-14 August, 2016

Manchester Pride

Everyone from Lucy Spraggan to Dannii Minogue went last year, and 2016 is expected to be bigger and better. So, go and run with a rainbow flag down Canal Street and be proud of who you are.

Manchester, August (dates TBC), 2016

Liverpool's peerless queer arts festival is always on DIVA's roster of premier events. We are literally in love with pretty much everything they do. Dates and acts TBC.

Outspoken Arts Scotland

Formerly known as Glasgay! (what a name), details are currently being firmed up for 2016's programme. The focus is on equality, arts and communities of interest - and the festival is open to ideas, so make a suggestion if you're feeling creative.

Glasgow, TBC

Ola Girls

Another overseas party for lesbian and bisexual women. Expect an outlandish combination of everything from sex toy parties to excursions to archeological sites.

Alicante, TBC
