I don't ask for much but when one of the superstars of Channel 5's Candy Bar Girls returned last week to the very bar that gave the name to the series, I felt super-spoilt.

Watching Christina Novelli deliver her delicious cocktail of original material alongside well known covers - and a climactic surprise - she left me (and the crowd) thirsty for more.

Sharing the stage with a superb acoustic guitarist and a drummer playing a cajon (box-like percussion instrument) the DIVA cover star had us mesmerised with her explosive set.

Christina's pop/rock attitude was quite literally dripping from the walls in the boiling hot basement which was crammed with girls enjoying her banter, as much as they loved the music.

Every song seemed to blend flawlessly into the next, with Christina effortlessly hopping from original song to cover, back to original song. And in the Candy Bar basement there was a distinct 80's underground vibe reflecting a time when music was fuelled by love and passion rather than cynical consumerism.

Reaching her climax - set-wise, that is - Christina had another trick up her sleeve. The red half of band RednPink grabbed a mic and rapped like a genius to Christina's vocals. To say I was blown away by her talent and the stunning final impromptu performance with Red and Christina is probably an understatement.

If you're a fan of Pink then you'll fall in love with Christina and her music instantaneously. The next few months are surely going to be a whirlwind for Ms Novelli, and she wants you all to get caught up in it too.
