Rachel McAdams (The Vow) and Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the
Dragon Tattoo) are set to embrace in a passionate, competitive and
some-what risqué love affair. Thriller Passion has snatched public
interest due to its casting of the two high-profile actors, who
play bisexual women in the film. The kinky scenes have already
commanded media attention, including scenes featuring the two
actors in blindfolds and effeminate masks, which does seem
reminiscent of Fifty Shades of Grey. However despite the
similarities between the two, Passion is a re-make of the French
thriller Crime d'amour (Love Crime) and is very much an original
piece. The film is to be delivered by erotic-thriller director
Brain De Palma (Femme Fatale, The Black Dahlia) and promises not to
disappoint.
The film showcases the struggle for dominance between the
superior and dominant Christine (McAdams) and her admiring and
naïve assistant Isabelle (Rapace.) Christine has adapted to the
dog-eat-dog world of business, whilst her assistant Isabelle is yet
to learn the ways of the world. Christine takes advantage of her
subordinate's trusting nature, and is quick to manipulate and steal
Isabelle's ideas.
The two colleagues engage in a lustful affair, with risqué
scenes of a blindfolded McAdams and a masked Rapace. Their
relationship is both passionate and competitive, a sure recipe for
disaster some might say. Corruption sets in when jealousy, betrayal
and obsession leads to committing sins that there's no coming back
from.
Passion has no release date as yet, but is set for a world
premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 7. The film is
circulating film festivals in the pursuit of a U.S and
international distributor and has been tipped to be a hot film
title for U.S buyers, so I guess we have to wait and see....
