Live music review: I am horse

We headed to Camden to check out the pop electronica trio

Last weekend, pop electronica band I am horse galloped their way out of the West (Bristol) for two nights of sumptuous and engaging performances. First stop was Camden Wheelbarrow on Saturday night. There was a receptive unpretentious crowd of music connoisseurs and the songs engaged and entertained them with a vibrant range of sonic elements and good story-telling. What's most striking about this all-female, non-guitar based line up is that they really rock and move you. The drums (Suzi Lamb) are present and intricate, the keys (Anna G) skillful and heartfelt and Magda has a surprising and memorable voice delivered with passion. There are also synths, looped bass lines, flute, melodica, clarinet and glockenspiel, all adding to the cocktail of sounds we were delighted to hear.

Sunday night they played Brighton in the Westhill Hall. Run by local music scenester and lesbian Lianne, the Hall is full of warmth and the vibe in there is lush. Bela Emerson has joined the horses for tonight and brought her well-honed cello magic to the sound. The pulsing phat bass lines of 'Hush', 'For Sofia' and 'Fade Away' got the village hall's walls rumbling. In short: their set was dynamic and captivating. NB: We heard 33.3% of them are gay. We wish it was 100%. They are a sexy bunch with a lot to say.  We also heard there will be some more titillating band stats to follow. Watch this space…
