We've got some great news for fans of popular comedienne and
presenter Sue Perkins, as we have confirmation that the funny lady
and former DIVA cover star is to take the lead role in a new six
part series. You may have heard whispers about it already....
Written by Perkins herself, Heading Out will air on BBC2 next
year, and with production having already started, the Red
Production Company and Square Peg TV have selected a well-known
cast list.
So, what's the show about? Here's what we know. Sue will play a
vet called Sara who has it all: a good job, great friends and a
seemingly good life. There's a small fly in the ointment, however;
as her fortieth birthday is fast approaching, Sara is hiding a
pretty big secret. She is still in the closet to her parents, you
see, and the day before her birthday her friends tell her she must
tell her parents she is gay or they will do it for her in six weeks
time. As a birthday gift, they have bought Sara sessions with a
flamboyant lifestyle coach, to help her coming out. Thus the aptly
titled show will follow Sara's journey as she heads 'out'. Sounds
ike a pretty good premise for some comedy moments that may well
resonate with lesbian and bi viewers.
With a great cast joining Ms Perkins in the form of Dawn French
(French and Saunders), June Brown (Eastenders), Joanne Scanlan (The
Thick of It and Little Britain) and Mel Giedroyc (Great British
Bake Off), Heading Out is sure to keep us in when it graces our
screens.
