I wish I lived in Camden. I can't tell you how resentfully I
looked at my Islington council tax bill when I found out about what
the queer Mayor and Mayoress have been getting up to in the
North London borough. Breathing life back into the arts and music
scene was high up on Amy Lamé and Jonathan Simpson's agenda and on
Friday 6 May they're celebrating the end of their first year in
office with an amazing charity ball to end ALL balls.
From the promo pics for the event we can see that Mayoress Amy
Lamé has had what she describes as a 'Camden make-over' in prep for
her Ball on Friday.
Dressed up a la Winehouse, Mayoress Amy is a living breathing
example of the beauty that lies beneath the trash,
celebrating everything that is brilliant and diverse about
Camden
I actually wrote Camden off a while ago, when I realised I
couldn't stand the sight of any more 'I heart London'
paraphernalia, bongs and that smell of stale, sickly waffles but
along with queer mayor Jonathan Simpson, Amy has pledged to promote
what Camden does best- music.
Hosting this event at Barfly (and with proceeds going to the
Roundhouse Trust which works to make music and the arts more
accessible to young people in the community) the queer mayors will
be showing off some of the best musical and artistic talent London
has to offer.
Obviously the night will be quirky, queer and a possibly even a
little bit sweaty, if her legendary south London Duckie nights are
anything to go by and the "Camden make-over" will be available to
everyone at the event whether you want to opt for Irish pensioner,
Spanish goth or flattened kebab on pavement; the choice is yours!
Food will be available in the form of cupcakes and Amy's
hand-picked performance artists will ensure Camden gets the full
Lamé make-over as well.
