A charity single which aims to raise money for anti-bullying
campaigns is to be released by an all-lesbian line-up of
musicians.
Penned by The L Project aka Greymatter's Georgey Payne and Sofia
Milone , 'It does get better' was born from her desire to help a
friend, George (pictured, centre) - who has been bullied at his
school since he came out, aged 12, three years ago.
A true collaborative venture, the track was created by some of
DIVA's favourite lesbian music acts including Neon Choir and Heads
Hearts, who gave time from their busy schedules to help create the
single.
Kenelis' singer Mel Sanson told DIVA: "It was nice to spend a
day not thinking about ourselves and start thinking about other
people".
The legendary singer Horse said: "There's something desperately
moving about this issue because we've all had the same experience,
we all have the same bruises from not being accepted for who we
are."
Folk singers Belinda O'Hooley and Heidi Tidow whose new album
features a track about a homeless gay man, said they couldn't
resist the opportunity to give something back to the community.
Set for release on 11 February, The L Project is asking DIVA
readers to buy and download the track from iTunes and all good
download sites for £1.50.
All proceeds from the track (there are 3 versions -karaoke,
radio edit and album) will be donated mainly to Diversity Role
Models (diversityrolemodels.org) the new charity for LGBT
schoolkids as well as Stonewall's anti-bullying campaign.
To promote the track and help the campaign go viral, they've
also made a video which they're asking people to share round to
spread the word.
Said Georgey: "We're appealing to people's better nature not to
just listen and forget about it but actually buy it so that the
charities can really get stuck into making the lives of all LGBTs
better."
