Aside from the totally 'out-there' suggestions - re-branding the
magazine 'Dave' for one issue (what's in a vowel?) - just to see if
we could rope the boys in to our glossy sapphic enclave, the effect
of the sugar-rich 'Wich on the DIVA team was generally benign.
What's 'Wich? It's the new Fairtrade snack in Ben & Jerry's
ever-growing range of frozen sugary delights. You'd think they'd
never heard of Cornetto the way the press release goes on about how
the new wrapped ice cream biscuit means we can now eat frozen
things on the go.
But then this ice cream is different. Doh! After all it's the
ice cream brand equal of a funky corporate festival-sponsoring
mobile phone brand (oh wait, B&J DID sponsor a music festival
this summer...). It's cool ice-cream, isn't it? And it's corporate
reponsibility record is sound. But wait, we haven't even explained
what all the fuss is about yet.
As you can see from the image above, this new fangled summer
snack comprises two chocolate chip cookies sandwiched around
('Wich, geddit?) a creamy slab of choc-chip vanilla ice cream.
Yum.
The kind people at B&J sent a whole cool-bag full of the
things to help us motor through our editorial meeting and by jove
we left the room on high (NB this is a usual occurence at DIVA
editorial meetings - Ed).
And although some of us enjoyed the full-on sugar hit, there
were some who made, shall we say, suggestions about how the 'Wich
could achieve perfection. 1. Slightly crunchier choc chip biscuit
to make the contrast between them and the soft ice cream more
satisfying. 2. Make sure you eat your 'Wich within no more than a
few minutes of removing if from the freezer - sticky dribbles on
the chin are not a good look.
Score (out of 5): 4
