Blazers go with everything. Not only that, but they are suitable
for any occasion, whether you're wearing them to the office, out
for dinner, or while getting your jiggy on.
So how does the dyke about town work it from daywear to night
time? You're meeting up with friends right after work and don't
want to bother bringing an entirely different outfit with you, but
you also don't want to be overdressed. What are you going to
do?
Piece of cake. At work you wear Oxfords, dark jeans, a
button-down, an argyle tank top, a watch, and - you guessed it - a
blazer. Then swap the Oxfords with some sneakers (blue Adidas,
perhaps?) throw a little gel in your hair, and you're ready to hit
the nightlife. Say after dinner you wind up at Queeraoke singing
'Like a Virgin' and the honeys are throwing Jell-O shots at you. No
problemo. Take off the tank top, roll up the sleeves of your blazer
and button down, and you're ready for a rager.
The above example demonstrates the versatility of our friend The
Blazer. The Blazer is an item of virtue that every gentlelady,
lesbian, homo, and queerling should own. Available in a wide array
of tailoring styles, blazers add a classy touch to any outfit.
Rachel Maddow rocks hers with blue Adidas and denim jeans,
showing us just how casual a blazered outfit can get. Ellen
DeGeneres has been rocking The Blazer for years ever since she got
that new designer who helped her get her act together (i.e.
Portia). I love it when she wears them over an open collar or loose
tie.
Or, take Justin Bieber, who's basically a lesbian. One minute
he's backstage eating chips and playing video games in jeans andan
Urban Outfitters Kelly Kapowski Tee (because Saved By the Bell is
so retro). Next minute he's throwing on a Dolce & Gabbana pale
pink blazer, rolling up the sleeves, and going to an awards show
that his girlfriend is hosting. An effortless look which gives the
Biebs' every-day outfit an £500 touch of class. Not too shabby for
a babygay.
If you've stalked Rachel Bilson lately you may have seen her
wearing the same black blazer with multiple outfits, dressing up a
T-shirt and jeans or accompanying a hot pink dress.
Maybe you've spotted your straight girl crush Emma Watson in a
blazer with some suspenders, Shane McCutcheon or
Kristen Stewart in an oversized blazer with the sleeves rolled up
past her elbows. Everyone knows every homo and should-be homo wears
blazers.
"I mean, there are haters who, every time we cover anything that
has anything to do with gay rights, will say, 'Oh, you're only
covering this because you're a homo.' But whatever. They also make
fun of my blazers." - Rachel Maddow, Glamour Magazine
interview.
Some of my favorite blazers can be picked up at H&M, Topman,
Topshop, the Gap, and Banana Republic. They are available in colors
and fabrics including white, navy, brown, black, sweatshirt
material, and tweed, and may include front pockets, elbow patches,
and contrast lining. Now go be classy.
