One of American television's most enduring child actresses has
revealed she is a lesbian - as she approaches her fiftieth
birthday.
Emmy Award-winning Kristy McNichol, who became famous for
appearing in shows such as Empty Nest and The Golden Girls, has
announced her sexuality because she "wants to be open about who I
am" as she approaches her milestone birthday.
The star, who lives with her partner of twenty years, Martie
Allan, came out at the weekend.
However, her representative added that she was also motivated to
speak out after the increasing rates of bullied teens and gay youth
suicides.
According to the Daily Mail, her publicist Jeff Ballard said she
"is very sad about kids being bullied."
He continued to say: "she hopes that coming out can help kids that
need her support. She would like to help others who feel
different."
McNichol has also appeared in Starsky and Hutch and Murder, She
Wrote.
