An Australian politician has apologised to openly-gay Penny Wong
for saying she not be allowed to marry her female partner.
Tom Kenyon, the South Australian minister for recreation and
sport, made the remark in an interview with local station ABC
Radio, earlier this week.
The fellow Australian Labor Party member strongly opposes marriage
equality.
"I don't want to be rude to Penny, but it's not her baby, do you
know what I mean? It's not, biologically, it's not, it's not the
biological product of two people," said Kenyon.
He later issued a statement saying he meant no disrespect to Wong,
whose partner is pregnant.
"I apologize if those comments offended them in any way," he
said.
Wong, who is Australia's Finance Minister, is the only openly-gay
member of Prime Minister Julia Gillard's cabinet.
