Openly-gay country music star Chely Wright has been presented
with an award for her LGBT equality efforts.
The 42 year-old was the recipent of the Interfaith Alliance's
President's Award at the annual Walter Cronkite Faith & Freedom
Award dinner in New York.
"What a terrific honor," she said.
"When you finally surrender, as I did after trying to control my
life, and finally surrendering to God's power for what was in store
for my life, my life actually became very easy in a lot of ways,
and very magical."
In August, the star married her long-term girlfriend Lauren
Blitzer in a Connecticut ceremony.
The wedding came just twelve months after Wright came out in
America's People Magazine - making her the first major country
music artist to do so.
