Lady Gaga and Jessie J are among the celebrities nominated for
this year's Stonewall awards, due to be held on November 3 at the
V&A.
The awards celebrate those who have made a positive impact on
the lives of gay, lesbian and bisexual people in Britain during the
last 12 months.
Lady Gaga is in the running for Hero of the Year for her LGBT
equality campaigning, an award voted for by Stonewall supporters
across Britain.
Jessie J is nominated for Entertainer of the Year, along with
Matt Smith, Harry Derbridge, Jane Hazlegrove and Christopher
Plummer.
Lip Service received a nomination for Broadcast of the Year,
along with Torchwood, The World's Worst Place to be Gay, Jamie's
Dream School and The Night Watch.
Other awards include; Publication of the Year, Journalist of the
Year, Writer of the Year, Politician of the Year and Sportsperson
of the Year.
Ben Summerskill, Stonewall Chief Executive, said: "This year's
Stonewall Award nominees include out gay sport stars, regional,
national and sector publications, popular TV shows and popular LGB
and straight entertainers.
"The diversity of those nominated for an award demonstrates how
gay equality is embedding itself into 21st century British life. We
think that's a real cause for celebration."
Winners from the categories will be chosen by a celebrity
judging panel including Gok Wan, England women's football coach
Hope Powell and radio presenter Eddie Mair.
