Lesbian website Gingerbeer has surveyed the UK's lesbian
community to identify what they want from nationwide Pride
celebrations.
The poll is the second survey that explores the requests of gay
and bisexual women.
The first, in 2009, demonstrated that above all respondents
wanted prioritisation of a women's area with 75% of respondents
more likely to attend Pride if there was one.
485 people took part in this year's survey and the results
revealed quite specific requests.
These include: grassy or picnic areas, alcohol/drug free spaces,
accessible space, quiet/chill out space and an area for children or
families.
There have been many requests for a party and generally women's
space with alternative suggestions which include a tea party, live
music and cabaret.
The implementation of a quiet space was desirable for some of the
13.5% of respondents who consider themselves to have a
disability.
Similarly, taking into consideration the fact that 20.4% of
respondents earn under £10,000, cost is also a considerable concern
- 66.5% of respondents requesting reasonably priced food.
