Ice cream makers Ben & Jerry's are teaming up with Stonewall
to launch a new Facebook app and an Apple-y Ever After flavour in
support of equal marriage.
The new app asks Facebook users to 'marry' someone of the same sex
to show their support for equality.
Ben & Jerry's will also be renaming its Apple Pie flavour to
Apple-y Ever After to make sure its customers know about the
consultation.
Stonewall Deputy Chief Executive Laura Doughty said: "We're truly
moved by Ben and Jerry's support for equal marriage in Britain. All
people want is to call their long-term relationship by the same
name as everyone else. Our strong advice to those who disapprove of
same-sex marriage is just not to get married to someone of the same
sex."
Ilaria Ida, Ben & Jerry's European Social Mission Manager,
said: "This is a proud day for Ben & Jerry's when we can show
our support for a cause that's at the core of our values."
Stonewall's campaign for equal marriage is supported by the
leaders of all three main political parties.
This year Stonewall published a draft Parliamentary Bill to extend
the legal form of marriage to same-sex couples, which it hopes will
be included in the Queen's Speech in May. Information about
Stonewall's campaign for equal marriage - including the draft Bill
- can be found online at www.stonewall.org.uk/marriage.
Ben & Jerry's have launched a mini-site to promote Apple-y
Ever After and their campaign supporting equal marriage, at
