The award-winning actress - who is about to host the 63rd
Primetime Emmy awards ceremony in Los Angeles, this month - made
the confession in her forthcoming memoir, Happy Accidents.
In it she wrote: "So, like any good, closeted young lesbian of the
seventies, I developed a raging crush on Ron Howard from Happy
Days."
However, according to Lynch, the smokescreen failed to convince
anyone.
In an excerpt published in People magazine, she added: "As it
turned out, my mum and dad had wondered whether I was gay, but they
had never talked about it with each other.
"They hadn't known anyone who was gay (and out). But now they knew
me, and they loved me. But my mum, bless her, still had one
question that was obviously bugging her. 'What about Ronny
Howard?'"
The 63rd Primetime Emmys take place on 18 September.
