The Do It Like A Dude star - who is openly-bisexual - told BBC Radio DJ Chris Moyles: "I'm excited to be a coach, inspiration and mentor and I jumped at the opportunity as it's all about 'The Voice'."

The 23-year old went on to praise the audition process, telling Moyles: "I do think sometimes that a lot of people don't audition for these shows because... they don't feel they look like a popstar. I can't wait, I'm so excited about it."

The star was most recently seen on ITV's X Factor as a guest judge for Tulisa Contostavlos.

Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton are currently the judges on the U.S. version of the show, which sees mentors choose their contestants on the basis of a 'blind' audition.

Controller of BBC One, Danny Cohen said in a statement: "Jessie J is going to be an amazing coach on The Voice UK. She's a massive young star with a strong personality, and her recent MOBO nominations are testament to her musical and creative ability."
