A bit of mud and the odd shower of rain couldn't dampen the
spirits of revellers at L Fest over the weekend, although three
contestants in the drag king contest did keep their wellies on.
Close to 1,000 lesbian and bi women (and friends) attended the
second annual festival at Shrewsbury Showground, taking part in
games and workshops, making new friends in the Solo Club, watching
films, comedy and cabaret, and cheering lesbian artists from the L
Project to Sarah Waters.
As the only surviving UK lesbian festival in a year when similar
events were hit by financial issues and poor weather, L Fest is
going from strength to strength. 'The feedback is overwhelmingly
positive,' says founder and director Cindy Edwards. 'People have
told us they had a wonderful weekend. I'm just going to have a
short rest and then we'll start planning for next year. We have to
keep giving the girls what they want!
