According to the Sydney Herald, the Born This Way star made the
gaffe while responding to a question from host Tracy Grimshaw, who
asked if she thought Gillard was hypocritical for living with her
partner in The Lodge while banning same-sex marriage.
Interpreting the wording of the question to mean that Gillard -
who is against gay marriage - to be a lesbian, Gaga is said to have
retorted with a curt and no-nonsense response.
Moments later, Gaga - real name Stephanie Germanotta - verified
Gillard's sexuality and re-formed her official answer to sound more
diplomatic. Despite this, the core message of her comments remained
"It's 2011, get on with it," she said. "I am so against the way
certain laws and restrictions send messages that one person is
better than another.
"I urge all of you to mobilise your voices so the Prime Minister
can hear you scream that you want to be equal."
Gaga is in Australia for a one-off concert at Sydney Town Hall,
