Lesbian activist Bettie Naylor dies in Texas aged 84

One of America's most prominent lesbian activists has died at the age of 84, DIVA can report.

One of America's most prominent lesbian activists has died at the age of 84, PinkPaper.com can report.

 

Naylor was a life-long lobbyist for the the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and was based in Texas.

 

According to the Austin Statesmen newspaper, Naylor's partner, Libby Sykora, said she died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday.

 

Her legacy includes the Human Rights Campaign and the National Women's Political Caucus.

 

The Austin Statesman add that Naylor also worked tirelessly for a number of other local organisations, including: AIDS Services of Austin, Project Transitions, NARAL Pro-Choice Texas, Annie's List, Atticus Circle, Planned Parenthood, Capital Area Democratic Women, Zach Theatre, the Long Center for the Performing Arts, Paramount Theatre and American Youthworks.

 

Naylor is survived by her children: Rick Naylor, Chuck Naylor Sharron Naylor.
