A lesbian couple from New Mexico were arrested yesterday after
chaining themselves together in aid of a gay marriage rally.
April Parker, 38, and Amanda Rich, 31, used bicycle locks around
their necks to connect themselves during a county clerk's office
protest in downtown Albuquerque.
They were part of a group of about 40 people protesting for
marriage licenses for same-sex couples, the Albuquerque Journal
report.
Their aim was to cause disruption which, in turn, would stop
heterosexual couples from marrying.
"I'm sorry, but until we can get a marriage license, no one else
can get a marriage license today," the pair replied when they were
asked to move from their position.
Subsequently, the pair were arrested by Bernalillo County
Sheriff's deputies. They were later issued with tickets for
trespassing and disorderly conduct.
