A lesbian pair became New York state's first legally married
same-sex couple yesterday, in a momentous occasion in US
history.
Kitty Lambert, 54, and Cheryle Rudd, 53, were married just after
midnight on Saturday at Niagara Falls state park near the US-Canada
border, METRO report.
The women, with five grown children between them from previous
marriages, were joined by several hundred friends, family and
tourists for the first marriage of two members of the same sex
since New York became the sixth, and largest, US state to legalise
gay marriage.
As the ceremony took place, Niagara Falls was illuminated in the
colour of the rainbow.
Before the civil ceremony, Lambert said: "We're achieving that
real American dream to be treated like everybody else and be
protected under all those laws."
