A lesbian who is expecting to run in New York's next mayoral
race will marry her girlfriend in Manhattan, she has
confirmed.
Christine Quinn, speaker of New York City Council, will marry
girlfriend Kim Catullo on May 19 in Manhattan before 300 guests
including New York's Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Andrew
Cuomo.
According to the New York Times, they will marry in the city's
popular Meatpacking district.
Quinn was a vocal supporter of marriage equality in NYC, which
came into effect on July 24 2011.
According to the Daily Mail, it is expected that Quinn will run
for the position of New York mayor next year.
However she told the New York Times that the couple's big day was
not about politics.
She said: "There's really not a political implication to this for
me as it relates to electoral politics. We're trying to make it
really a day, a night that's about friends and family and us."
