The 24-year-old surrendered herself on Thursday morning after
opting not to go back to jail.
Lohan was originally sentenced to four months in jail for stealing
a £1,500 necklace. However, prison overcrowding made her eligible
for house arrest.
In addition to her sentence, the movie star must serve 480 hours
of community service.
The Mean Girls star must spend the next 35 days at her home in
Venice Beach, California, fitted with an electronic tag to ensure
she doesn't leave her property.
Los Angeles Sheriff Department's spokesman Steve Whitmore, said:
"She is now confined to the interior premises of her home at all
times."
Lohan reportedly decided to start her house arrest early so that
filming on her new film Gotti wasn't impacted on. She is due to
star alongside John Travolta and Al Pacino in the movie.
