The Grammy Award winner, 50 - who recently survived breast
cancer - was greeted by hundreds of fans in Hollywood as she
unveiled the accolade on Tuesday.
"Let my life be an inspiration to anyone, gay, straight, breast
cancer, woman, mother, any human being who receives the inspiration
from my story," said Etheridge.
"You can have a dream that you can grown up in a small
Midwestern town and believe, and desire, and create a life and end
up with a star on the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard," she
said.
Etheridge came out as a lesbian in 1993 and has since been a
vocal equality advocate.
The star and her long-term partner, L Word actress Tammy Lynn
Michaels, separated in April 2010 after exchanging vows in Malibu
in September 2003.
