British actress Emma Watson has said that she was quizzed over her sexuality after cutting her hair short, last year.

The Harry Potter star, who recently appeared in My Week With Marilyn, made the revelation in an interview with The Independent newspaper.

Speaking of her headline-grabbing haircut (pictured), Watson said: "I had journalists asking me if this meant I was coming out, if I was a lesbian now.

"That haircut did make me realise how subjective everyone's opinion is. Some people were crazy for it and some people just thought I'd lost my sh-t. All I can do is follow my instincts, because I'll never please everyone."

The 21 year-old, who is also the face of Lancome's new lipstick, re-iterated this point in an interview with French Elle.

"I'm a multidimensional person and that's the freedom of fashion," she says.

"That you're able to reinvent yourself through how you dress and how you cut your hair or whatever."
