A female teacher from New Jersey is being investigated by school
officials after seemingly posting a homophobic rant on
Facebook.
Viki Knox - a 49 year-old faculty adviser and prayer group leader
at Union High School - is alleged to have written the comments on
the social networking site, before quickly removing them.
The comment claimed that homosexuality is "a perverted
spirit that has existed from the beginning of creation," and a
"sin" that "breeds like cancer," local newspaper the Star-Ledger
reports.
Lawyer John Paragano tells The Star-Ledger of Newark he saw posts
by teacher and complained to the school district.
According to reports, Knox made the comments because she objected
to a school display celebrating Lesbian Gay Bisexual and
Transgender Month.
"Educators have a responsibility to nurture their students as they
develop into young adults - and that includes making sure they feel
supported and know that there is nothing wrong with being
LGBT,"Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese said in a
prepared statement.
"Her alleged public rant is irresponsible and sends a dangerous
message to her students."
