The event, billed as the North East's biggest gay Pride, is
organised by Northern Pride Events Limited - a not-for-profit
community interest company, whose senior management committee
comprises of members of the local LGBT Communities.
It starts at 11.30am when members of the LGBT community and
their friends will gather at Newcastle Civic Centre for a parade
through the city centre.
Parade marchers will ultimately arrive at Leazes Park at 1pm for
the Pink Picnic, where entertainment is being scheduled.
Last year's Northern Pride attracted 16,000 people and
organisers hope that this year's event will be as popular, despite
challenging cuts in funding and sponsorship.
"We're all really excited about this year's events. The
committee have worked hard to deliver a fantastic line up that we
know people will love!" said Laura Empson, Chair of Northern
Pride.
"Northern Pride is a great event that has something to offer
everyone and this year we want to build upon previous success and
attract even more of the LGBT community to join in the fun," she
added.
Northern Pride 2011 won't just be restricted to July 16 - there
will also be an LGBT Question
Time with some well-known local personalities.
2011 will be the fourth Northern Pride; the first took place in
2008.
