Former newspaper editor Piers Morgan has launched a verbal attack on Madonna - claiming her appearance at the recent Golden Globe awards was "grotesque".

The 46 year-old's comments were aired on U.S. daytime talk-show The View yesterday, which is hosted by Barbara Walters and Whoopi Goldberg.

Speaking about the singer's arms, he said: "Grotesque. Why would any woman want to look like a caveman? I'm serious."

He then added that she was still "banned" from his successful stateside CNN talk-show.

"I don't want arms like that on my show," he said. "Long sleeves, maybe she can come on."

The comments are the latest criticisms to be levied at the Confessions on a Dancefloor star.

Elton John's partner David Furnish launched a stinging verbal attack on her after she won a Golden Globe for her song Masterpiece on Sunday.

John was also nominated in the category and had previously said that Madonna, 53, "doesn't have a f**king chance."

In response, Furnish took to social networking site Facebook to say: "Madonna. Best song???? F**k off!!!"

He continued: "Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in it's narcissism. And her criticism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is.(sic)"
