Rates of gay adoption surge in UK and US

The number of homosexual couples adopting in the US has increased significantly, according to the latest census.

Almost 20 per cent of same-sex couples are listed as adoptive parents for 2009, which has jumped from 8 per cent in 2000.

Sources are crediting the Obama administration for the increase, despite unequal marriage law across America. Others are saying its a symptom of increased tolerance regarding homosexuality.

Meanwhile, the UK has seen a similar increase.

Currently, one in twenty adopted children are being placed with gay families - and some parts of the country have witnessed an increase of fifty per cent.

The British city with the highest rate of gay couples adopting is Brighton, shortly followed by Manchester.
