The film - entitled Without Men - stars the 36 year-old Mexican
actress as the mayor of a village which loses all of its men when
they're recruited by guerilla revolutionaries.
It also stars actor Christian Slater.
"We received a statement from the distributor in Spain saying
that when the film premieres it will have the lesbian scenes
removed," Xavier Daniel, director of the Barcelona International
Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, told AFP.
"We are very angry that a distributor can modify the content of
a film," he added.
"The audience will not understand the film, because all the
lesbian scenes are cut out," Daniel said. "It is unbelievable in
the year 2011."
