Suzanne Harrison, 38, admitted four counts of sexual assault against the girl - who cannot be named - between December 2005 and July 2006, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

The news is the latest incident to see a female teacher formally investigated over her relationship with a female pupil.

Prosecutor Godfried Duah told the court that Harrison pursued the victim at her fifteenth birthday party. Once ingratiated, she then spent considerable time with the girl and her family before making sexual advances towards her.

This continued for several months and was said to have had "considerable impact" on the victim.

Duah added that even when the girl had moved on to university, she was subjected to "emotional abuse" by her former teacher.

Now, the judge has ruled that Harrison should be detained in a psychiatric hospital.

Judge Peter Thompson said he had made the ruling after a "very thorough" assessment of her condition.

"This does not mean the court takes a less serious view of the offending - the victim has suffered very significantly, " he told the court.

Just to point out, there is a spelling mistake in the title of the article. It says Mental Heath Act. I take it you mean Health......
