Suzanne Harrison, 38, has officially been suspended from her current job as a geography teacher at Suffolk One sixth-form centre, Ipswich.

She appeared at South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court this week accused of two charges of abusing a position of trust by engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 17 and sexual assault on a child.

This is the latest in a string of cases which have seen female teachers arrested over allegations of inappropriate relationships with young, underage girls.

She is alleged to have had a relationship with the unnamed 15-year-old girl circa 2005 while teaching in Coventry.

She was arrested and charged on 8 July. A trial is expected to take place in December or early next year.

A spokesman for Suffolk One has said: "We can confirm that an employee was immediately suspended on July 8, 2011, when an allegation came to light relating to an alleged incident that took place in 2005."

Harrison is yet to comment on the charges.
