The film, which won Annette Bening a Golden Globe and stars Julianne Moore as her on-screen partner, follows the story of when their children track down their biological father and bring him into the family's lives.

Last weekend, during the 22nd annual ceremony, it won the outstanding film award for fair representation of gay and lesbian characters.

It was nominated for four Oscars earlier this year, including Best Picture.

The film, which cost $4 million (£2.5 million) to make, has so far grossed $22 million worldwide.

When me and my partner sat down to watch this film hoping it wouldn't be just another showcase for how messed up everyone seems to think gay relationships are, but no, yet again we were doomed for dissapointment. Why are we always portrayed as cheaters, phychos, thiefs, manipulating bitches or some other portrayal of something other than just a normal couple who are, god forbid, HAPPY!!!!!??? After she kissed the 'sperm donar' we switched off in disgust. Why a man? why not another woman? perhaps the mans potential girlfriend? Why kiss anyone at all?? but no it had to be a man. How it qualifies for this award I have no idea, I can only asume no one involved is gay as they dont seem to have a clue! Sadly the director is gay which further compounds my dissapointment as we actually did hope for the coveted title of the so called 'fair representation'.

I am sat watching the kids are alright with my wife, we innocently sat down to watch thinking it was going to relate to our lives and what we hope to have in the future but I'm sad to say that it is an awful portrayal of our lives we are very happy together and no matter where I lives take us we would never deal with it by sleeping with a man it's so typical that it ends this way but it's not true to life I'm so disappointed and cannot for the life of me understand who the hell voted it for that award whoever they were they were not LESBIANS!!!
