The two singers, Beverly McClellan and Vicci Martinez, were both saved by the public vote earlier this month in the popular TV talent contest, which features Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5's Adam Levine and Cee-Lo Green.

Just yesterday, the LA Times newspaper described both hopefulls as "compelling singers" and claim that their presence in the final eight illustrates a changing attitude in America.

The show, which is not dissimilar to X Factor, saw McLellan - who is mentored by Aguilera - sing The Thrill is Gone by B.B. King.

Martinez, who is mentored by Green, sang Dog Days are Over by Florence and The Machine.

The contest, which airs on US channel NBC, will finish on 29 June.
