THEATRE: The Baltimore Waltz (Brighton Fringe)The Baltimore Waltz, Marlborough Little Theatre, Brighton, May 2nd)(Review by Rosie Blackwell-Sutton)
Adapted from Paula Vogel's novel of the same name, this low scale performance is one to watch. The three person cast explores beautifully the story told by Vogel of her dying brother's last moments. Carl, the brother, has been diagnosed with HIV. He has always wanted to go to Europe. As he lives his final days, his sister imagines their trip from Paris to Vienna taking in the sights, and sex, along the way. Aiding and abetting the pair is the ever mysterious Third Man, a reference to the Orson Welles film.
The direction is wonderful as props and actors are used sparingly yet emphatically to create a truely unique experience. The cast played their roles wonderfully taking you on a journey never taken that is at times hilarious yet fundamentally very moving.
