BOOK: Another Sun Shines by Annette De Burgh

(Review by Eden Carter Wood)

Great news for those of you who enjoyed the film Loving Annabelle; Another Sun Shines tells a very similar story, set in 1960s Glasgow.

Young English teacher Diana Benton starts a new job at an exclusive Scottish school, and is confronted with a rebellious American student, Sam Stevenson. Their personalities clash, which in books like these means they are fighting a passionate attraction to one another. Having set up this expectation, of course, De Burgh delivers, but it is actually the story that follows their fiery courtship which is most interesting and compelling, as the two live separate lives which, eventually, reconnect.

I found the writing a little florid at times. Doubts ‘assail’ poor Diana, for example, and I was often reminded me of the Mills & Boons my great-granny used to hand down to me to read as a pre-teen (!?) but if you like that kind of thing, this could be well worth a look.
