don't know if you've heard, but the westborough baptist church from america have attempted to come to my college: queen mary's college in basingstoke to protest about a play that freedom youth (a gay group) are putting on. the play is about a boy named matthew shepard who gets murdered because he was gay. i find this outrageously stupid that they would want to come all the way from america to protest at a college in basingstoke - one of the smallest most insignificant towns in england that isn't even on the weather map! plus it makes christians look like anti-gay freaks which isn't true, it's just acting extremely on one particular verse in the bible, that's probably why a majority of gay people choose to shone religion.

hi i wonder if anyone here would be interested in telling or writing their coming out story to me? i'm 28 and came out last year i have a 4 year old son, and was in a relationship with his father at the time, i told him about the way i felt but didn't actually leave until he was ready for us to split as i didn't want to leave him in a bad situation. he and i get on great now we are really good friends, we both have girlfriends, he seems happy, i am honestly the happiest i have ever been and so glad i came out when i did. i am also a psychology student and am doing my dissertation on the experience of coming out at an older age, if you think you could help me please get in touch with me at 06011351@hope.ac.uk or through a post on here, thanks x
Married to the Man article   _view postings

having just read the article about lesbians who stay married to men i felt i had to post, i understand every situation is unique, but to stay married knowing they are gay is selfish, it is not fair on the husband and is living a lie. i separated from my husband of 20 years six months ago when i realised i was gay, it has been very difficult and a slow process coming to terms with it, the worst thing is the loneliness having nobody to talk to about it and it is difficult to get to support groups with two young children. but no matter how difficult it can be at times i am happy knowing i am being honest with myself and not living a lie. my ex has moved on and is in a new relationship and i am happy for him. for the women who are going through this difficult time in their lives have the courage to be yourself for the sake of you and everybody else.
Indirect homophobia in school   _view postings

myself and my partner were outraged when her 11 year old son arrived home from school on friday saying that his friend had not been allowed to borrow his stonewall t-shirt. this t-shirt with the slogan 'some people are gay, get over it', ironically represents a campaign to specifically target homophobia in schools! his teacher had apparently told his friend that the t-shirt was 'too rude', and that he should borrow someone elses! i can only imagine what this must have felt like to my partners son, to have the word 'gay' openly rejected in front of possibly 30 children, nevermind the general effect upon the rest of the children. obviously the school was contacted at the earliest convienience about the occurance, their only response being to invite my partner in to talk about 'the interpretation' of the incident. what they failed to appreciate is that the children's interpretation of the incident had already occured on friday, and the damage had already been done. when are we going to move to a system where an awareness of predjudice in all its forms and how to actively tackle it in schools are a prerequisite of all teachers. if the teachers are the ones spreading homophobic attitudes and beliefs, how on earth are our children supposed to thrive? luckily my partners son is a confident chap, whose determination to wear his t-shirt has only been increased by his teachers' homophobia.....as we speak my partner has ordered another t-shirt....'gay is a good word - get with it'.....a lesson he will be able to impart to his teacher.....
 You Tube Homophobia   _view postings
replies: 2_started 22/02/2010  started by: Julie
after recently checking out some l word vids on you tube i was fuming to discover the amount of homophobic comments on some of the videos. surely youtube must have some policy on these sorts of comments. would they be allowed to stay on there if they were racist comments?? after reading about how being a lesbian/gay/bi/transgender person is a disease, disgusting and how we are a minority in the nation i feel very reluctant to continue using youtube. i am so fed up of being judged because of my sexaulity- i know it's going to happen and that some people are just too small minded to handle the concept that two people of the same sex can have a relationship and amazing sex without the need of a penis- i guess i just hoped that companys and sites such as youtube would take measures against homophobic comments. i am a proud out lesbian and homophobic people need to wake up and realise that we are no longer a minority in the nation and more and more of us are standing up and saying yes i am gay and i am proud and that their nasty comments will not keep us down!
